Zlatan Ibrahimović’s story at Ajax began in 2001, when the talented but still raw Swedish striker moved from Malmö for a club-record fee. His time in Amsterdam, which lasted until 2004, was crucial to his development as a player, despite a difficult start.

Initially, Ibrahimović struggled to establish himself in the team, partly due to a less than ideal relationship with some of his teammates and coaches. However, under Ronald Koeman, who took over in December 2001, his talent began to blossom with greater consistency.
